At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Main Course Objectives

  • Assess current challenges and opportunities for hospital-based healthcare professionals

  • Examine approaches to clinical reasoning and diagnosis

  • Identify common symptoms and signs of substance withdrawal, strategies to manage withdrawal, and treatment options for substance use disorders

  • Describe optimal approaches to management of patients with cirrhosis

  • Summarize the most relevant and potentially practice-changing clinical research related to hospital medicine from the past year

Critical Care Pre-Course Objectives

  • Summarize two important critical care publications from the past year

  • Implement an evidence-based approach to the diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia in the ICU

  • Describe an evidence-based approach to the diagnosis and management of left and right heart failure

  • Apply an evidence-based approach to neuroprognostication following cardiac arrest

  • Implement a physiology-based approach to initial ventilator settings for critically ill patients

MOC Points

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 19 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
