Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

    • Explain current challenges and opportunities for hospital-based healthcare professionals

    • Describe healthcare services that do not add value (i.e., not beneficial to patients) and approaches to reducing overuse.

    • Summarize evidence based approaches to the management of hospitalized patients with cirrhosis

    • Describe common causes of diagnostic errors and methods to mitigate risk related to them

    • Explain common causes and management strategies for electrolyte and acid-based disorders

    • Summarize the most relevant and potentially practice-changing clinical research related to hospital medicine from the past year 

    • Recognize signs of burnout and take steps to improve wellness among healthcare professionals

 

Target Audience

This CME program is designed to meet the educational needs of Hospital Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Residents.

The program will be held at the 3rd floor Conference Center located in the Feinberg Pavilion of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 251 E. Huron Street, Chicago, Illinois. Directions and parking information are available at www.nm.org.

Accreditation Statement

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

 

Credit Designation Statement

The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 16.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses and other healthcare professionals will receive a Certificate of Participation. For information on applicability and acceptance of certificates of participation for education activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ from organizations by the ACCME, please consult your professional licensing board. 

MOC Points

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 24.0 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Cancellations must be made in writing to the Office of Continuing Medical Education. The paid registration fee, minus $50 administrative charge, will be refunded if cancellation is received by Monday, September 17, 2018.
