Program Description

Seventy-five percent of hospitalists now care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit, indicating a pressing need for competency-based education targeted at the management of critically ill patients. This goal of the pre-course is to provide clinically relevant evidence-based updates on essential components of critical care including sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and liberation from mechanical ventilation.

Learning Objectives

  1. Demonstrate the ability to set, adjust, and troubleshoot the mechanical ventilator

  2. Apply an evidence-based approach to the diagnosis and treatment of hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia

  3. Identify best practices in the use of analgesia and sedation in the ICU

  4. Implement strategies to improve shared decision making in the ICU

  5. Incorporate recent practice-changing critical care trials into daily practice

Target Audience

This CME program is designed to meet the educational needs of Hospital Medicine Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Residents who care for acutely ill patients.
